I was tasked with developing 10 math-centered engineering lesson plans for elementary schoolers as part of an initiative to create STEAM labs in North Carolina elementary schools. For each lesson, I created a slideshow for teacher use and a design worksheet for students. To inform lesson planning, my collaborator and I visited local schools to get a sense of their needs and meet with stakeholders such as librarians and community school coordinators. I needed to ensure lessons were thorough and easy for teachers to adapt. I also created feedback and inventory forms in order to ensure longevity of the labs. I also helped develop a website to house the materials. I found this project to be extremely rewarding as I helped to inspire the next generation of innovators and increased awareness of the engineering design process.
